UGC - Human Resource Development Centre

The UGC-Academic Staff College was established in the year 1987 with cent percent financial assistance from the University Grants Commission. Recently, i.e. in the XII plan guidelines the Academic Staff College has renamed as Human Resource Development Centre. It has been conducted 110 Orientation programmes for the benefit of nearly 3,8 00 Higher Education teachers since 1987. And 7900 teachers were benefited by 271 Refresher Courses conducted by our Human Resource Development Centre in various branches such as Science, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Languages, etc., 14,000 Teachers of College and University were trained by our Human Resource Development Centre. The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre also conducted a 28 days Orientation Course for about 250 newly recruited Government College Teachers of Tamilnadu, during Jan 2008 sponsored by the TANSCHE.

Moreover, 60 other Special Programmes and Workshops were also conducted by the Human Resource Development Centre. Computer Training, Training on Functional English to the Administrative Staff of this University, Training for Librarians, short term and interaction programme for the scholars and Workshop for College Principals were included in the special programmes. It has also conducted the Orientation Courses for the Engineering College teachers with financial assistance from AICTE. Two Workshops was organized for 150 Research guides and Supervisors. It pared way to learn the methods of research in Science and Social science. In the 21 day Interaction Programmes for Ph.D. Students which benefited about 500 Ph.D. Scholars through the UGC-Academic Staff College, Bharathiar University.

The UGC- Human Resource Development Centre of the Bharathiar University aims at maintaining the top most status at the National level, not only in terms of number of programmes organized but also in terms of quality and variety. To accomplish this task, training in Inflibnet-Infonet, EDUSAT exposure, e-learning and e-content development are also provided to the participants.

Apart from the academic side, the Human Resource Development Centre has jointly organized the National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST) programme funded by the MHRD, New Delhi with co-ordination of the Information and Library Network Centre, An Autonomous Inter-University Centre of UGC, Ahmadabad for the benefit of Librarians of the Colleges and Universities. And it also conducted a programme for non-teaching staff members of CTI (Central Training Institute), Chennai & Mumbai with the sponsorship of CTI.

The Academic Staff College Guest House has 25 rooms with attached bathroom facilities and also two dormitories with toilet facilities to accommodate more participants. Common facilities like waiting hall and TV room, Recreation hall, Reception Hall, Play Ground, Kitchen and Dining room facilities are available in the Guest house.

National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore reviewed the performance of all the Academic Staff colleges in the country during February & March 2012. It made a detailed assessment of the curriculum, teaching Methods/ infrastructure facilities and other innovation practices of all the Academic Staff Colleges in the country. The NAAC has rated with 55 marks, and UGC - Academic Staff College, Bharathiar University is placed 12th at National level among 66 ASCs and UGC-Academic Staff College, Bharathiar University placed 1st among the four ASCs functioning in Tamil Nadu State.

Training Aspects
It has the facilities of Computers which can give opportunity for offering hands-on training on e-Content preparation and SPSS package. It has a big library with 8000 books for the benefit of the participants of programmes of Orientation and Refresher courses. Innovative pedagogical techniques for focussed in the Orientation Programme and Refresher Courses. Selective resource persons are called from other Universities and other States. All the available resources are supporting in the University.
